Field
Day is ham radio's open house. Every June, more than 40,000 hams
throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in
public places to demonstrate ham radio's science, skill and service to
our communities and our nation. It combines public service, emergency
preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single
event. Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the
most popular event in ham radio. The Whitman Amateur Radio Club will begin to setup at 9am at the YMCA field at 635 Plymouth St (Rt 106) in East Bridgewater MA. <Google Maps Link> Volunteers for area preparation including club banner displays, antennas & station setup, bbq grill, cooler and generator setups are needed. Please join us to help out if possible. Volunteers for station take down and area clean up on Sunday at 2pm also needed. |
Operational Objective: To work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. Field Day is open to all amateurs in the areas covered by the ARRL/RAC Field Organizations and countries within IARU Region 2. DX stations residing in other regions may be contacted for credit, but are not eligible to submit entries. The Whitman club will be running Class A operations using the club call NI1X with the on-air identification being: "NI1X 4A EMA" or "November India One X-Ray, 4 Alpha, Echo Mike Alpha" [call sign] [ # of operating stations & class] [ARRL section] (Note: prior to the actual start of our on-air operations at 2pm edt Saturday, with final station preperations completed, if the final station count changes (from 4A), notification will be made so all operators are aware of the proper club identification) (Also if asked, the Grid Square for our E.Bridgewater YMCA Field Day location is FN42ma) The Whitman Amateur Radio Club will use N1MM+
logging software running on club provided laptops at each operating
station. Computer logging is to be used. Contacts recorded on paper
logs will not be accepted. Examples of the entry window of N1MM+ |
Multiple operators per station is very common. One may work contacts while the other logs contacts in N1MM+ then switch functions. Others often stand by and jump on the air when someone takes a break. Anyone wishing to operate at a specific time, please email Paul KB1MTW (pm.moss@comcast.net) with your dates/times & station/band preferences. |
